Narrative: blog task

  1) Give an example from film or television that uses Todorov's narrative structure of equilibrium, disequilibrium and new equilibrium.  In the smurfs they are living in there happy village peacefully,everything is good, this is the equilibrium . then the wizard comes over and terrorises the smurfs leading some of them to run away and get sucked into a blue tunnel which brings them to the streets of Manhattan being crashed through by the wizard, this is the disequilibrium. then by the end they defeat the wizard and end up back at there village and all is happy and it has a positive ending, this is the new equilibrium 2) Complete the activity on page 1 of the Fact sheet: find a  clip  on YouTube of the opening of a new TV drama series (season 1, episode 1).   1) What example is provided of why visual iconography  are so important? Genres are categories or types of media text. Genres are recognisable  through the repeated use of generic codes and conventions . Generic codes and conventions are the aspects of a text which the  audience recognises as the shared characteristics of a genre. 2) What examples are provided of the importance of narrative in identifying genre? i n the reading the example given is  Good examples of this are Independence Day (1996: dir. R. Emmerich), Deep Impact (1998: M. Leder) and, more recently, The Day After  Tomorrow (2004: dir. R. Emmerich). In The Day After Tomorrow a  father has two goals: to persuade the government to act on his  advice and then to rescue his son. 1) What are the preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings for the RBK 50 Cent advert? oppositional- that could come across potentially come across racist as people may take it as they are associating crime withy black people  if they didn't  know that who 50 cent is and his story they would maybe assume  that the finger print and the black person could be stereotyping black people with.  this could be taken out of context and seen as discriminative  and very offensive towards black people. dominant  readng-as50 cent lived an had lived in the projects and during his time growing up there and living there he was shot multiple times by rival gangs and cross fires.
