Paper 2 mock exam: Learner response

 1) Type up your feedback in full (you do not need to write mark/grade if you do not wish to).

total 31 D
www-there is plenty to build on here:q2+q4 are in the mid-levels or close to this. Now we need to work on two areas to push into the highs levels consistently.
ebi: question focus in q3 you have lots of csp knowledge but don't answer the question which was on industry and audience

2) Did you succeed in meeting or exceeding your target grade for A Level Media in this paper? If not, how many additional marks do you need to achieve your target grade in Paper 2?
I was one grade off my target grade (C ) as I got 31 marks which is a D. I was 9 marks off myy target

3) Write a question-by-question analysis of your performance. For each question, write how many marks you got from the number available and identify any points that you missed by carefully studying the AQA indicative content in the mark scheme:

Q1: 4/9
Additional points: I need to get into ideology-capitalism
• an ideological reading might suggest that capitalism is a corrupt system which
only benefits the few.
• the relative size of the figures in relation to the buildings signifies a super-
human aspect to the characters, suggesting their omnipotence

Q2: 9/25
Additional points:
need to focus on q-validity of theory and needs much more focus on shirky + end of audience theory
question focus -peel paragraphs
• the key aspects of the relevant theory: Digital natives, ‘We the media’, Web
2.0, Convergence, Prosumer
• Shirky’s ideas and theories on end of audience: mass amateurisation, cognitive
surplus
• the way in which ‘end of audience’ theories argue that traditional boundaries
(hierarchies?) between producer and audience have been blurred, integrated,
reversed
The focus on community and networks – based on race and cultural
experience – creates a space for an audience marginalised by traditional
media.

Q3: 7/25
Additional points: lots of CSP knowledge here but no focus on question:
-distribution
-economic(global tv industry)  and cultural context(changing audience habits-technology + tv)
Increasingly global nature of media companies has enabled access to a range
of international media products, suggesting a move away from the national and
local.
• Developments in technology have provided a range of media platforms and
screens for viewing.
• Shift to self-scheduling – enabled by technology and cultural changes – away
from industry-controlled viewing.
• Majority of viewing of television programmes still takes place via traditional TV
screen – effect of convergence can be exaggerated.
• Scheduling is still key to the way audiences consume TV shows – particularly
around key crime dramas and reality shows.

Q4: 11/25
Additional points: need more for 25 marks-examples points etc
-other sides of argument ?
-needs a bit more on synoptic element
-language on industry
It is a co-production of AMC Networks, SundanceTV (US) and RTL Television
(Germany), positioning it to exploit the national and global market –
characteristic of a trend arguably shaped by economic and cultural contexts.
• Distributed by Fremantle, a British production and distribution company,
subsidiary of RTL media, a global company which is designed to target an
international audience – characteristic of media companies’ responses to
economic contexts.
• AMC and RTL were able to develop the series in the context of new
opportunities for distribution and exhibition – eg the Walter Presents platform in
the UK, which is a subsidiary of C4, exploiting broadcast and digital
opportunities.
As a BBC ‘state of the nation’ series, commissioned for Sunday prime time slot,
Capital may suggest that there have been limited changes to distribution and
consumption.
• One of the key selling points of the series is its representation of cultural (and
social, political) contexts.
• Kudos, the independent producer of the series, specialises in TV series which
can be sold or remade for the US market, making it typical of contemporary
media institutions which operate globally rather than nationally – suggesting
the shifting contexts a PSB now operates in.

4) Look at question 4 - the synoptic question. How many of the four key concepts did you cover in your answer? Write a new essay plan for this question using the indicative content in the mark scheme and taking care to include at least three of Language - Representations - Audience - Industries. You can use bullet points but make sure you offer enough content to meet the criteria for Level 5 (top level). This will be somewhere between 3-4 well-developed paragraphs planned in some detail.
-Language:• How the different modes and language associated with different media forms
communicate multiple meanings.
Representations:• The way events, issues, individuals (including self-representation) and social
groups (including social identity) are represented through processes of
selection and combination.
Industries:• How processes of production, distribution and circulation shape media
products.
Audiences:• How media producers target, attract, reach, address and potentially construct
audiences.

-The sims free play
-much of sims free play reinforces stereotypical gender roles as van zoonen(sex stereotypes ) and Bulter (gender as performance)state. This can be seen can be seen I  customisation options when creating a sim and also in extension pack trailers such as Teens, pregnancy, the mall.

horizon forbidden west
-driven by drive, independent female protagonist in Aloy, hfw has been held up as an example of how in videogames in changing. This challenges gender inequalities and reflects recent cultural changes ( sometimes described as "woke" agenda)

5) Based on the whole of your Paper 2 learner response, plan FIVE topics / concepts / CSPs / theories that you will prioritise in your Easter Media revision timetable.
