Magazines: Front cover practical project

Research

magazine of choice:

Billboard

Firstly the magazine has a recurring motif of bold text (‘Billboard’) this is in different colours depending of the colour scheme of the page. The magazines have a soft background or a block of colour, making the artist the main focus of the magazine. The artist name is usually in big writing which would catch the audiences eye. The copy(lines) have either quotes about the artist or their achievements and also what is to come up in the magazine, however there isn’t too much going on in the text making it a simple looking magazine cover.

Planning

setting :

a main focus is the picture of celebrity with a soft background. the pose is how the celebrity would pose.

costume:

a casual outfit that the model would wear.

shoot:

the picture taken at an angle from the upper body

2) Upload two genuine covers of the magazine you have chosen and put them next to your front cover. This is a brilliant way to check how professional your work looks alongside the real thing.

3) Write a short evaluation of your work: have you succeeded in your brief to create a new, original edition of an existing magazine? Does your cover stand up alongside the genuine covers of your chosen magazine? How professional is your work alongside those genuine examples?

I believe that I gave good attempt on creating a new edition. I think the font for the billboard headline was accurate and i tried to find the most similar font for the copy’s. i think i should of taken a more close up picture of the model as i took more of a mid-close up however it should of been close up. I think that the costuming was good as it reflects jack harlows style.

4) Finally, what would you do differently if you completed this assignment again?

I would get better , brighter lighting on the model as i believe that the lighting was quite dim on his face and realised that once i was comparing the pictures with the actual magazine. Further more i would take a close up shot instead of a mid-close up shot.
