Audience theory 1: blog tasks

) Read this Mail Online article about the effects of videogames. How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?

this links to the hypodermic model as it talks to how violent video games can leads to an increase in violent behaviour. the article says "Playing a violent video game for just an hour over a three-day period is enough to increase aggressive behaviour, according to a new study." this links how the model as it shows how the media can be injected to peoples head and have a dangerous effect on their lives and could even put other people in harm

2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?

firstly the way they put 'son of single mum' could receive backlash or sympathy from the audience as it could suggest that he is this way a he doesn't have  father which could receive sympathy for the kid suggesting that he has had a hard life however it could also receive backlash suggesting that cause its stereotypical for kids without fathers to act out and do things like this.

3) What do you think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media?

i believe that is is partly true as alot of people are gullible and believe lot of what the see on the internet. i think that the hypodermic model is true and it could lead to people getting harmed physically and emotionally whether its harming themselves or other people around them

Two-step flow model

1) Summarise the two-step flow model. What is an opinion leader?

a person who gives an opinion and people follow what they say and believe and listen to what that person has to say and support him e.g. Andrew Tate The two-step flow model instead suggests the audience are influenced by ‘opinion leaders’ in the media who mediate how the audience react to media texts. The theory suggests the media is not all-powerful and that social factors are important.

2) How do influencers like Zendaya fit into the two-step flow model?
Zendaya produced positively which people loved and they started to follow her mindset and her sayings as they like her a lot.

3) In your opinion, is the two-step flow theory still relevant today?

I think it is true as people follow what famous people say and use them as a leader like role model which shows that they do listen do follow people like leaders which would have an effect an their mindset.

Uses and Gratifications theory

1) For each of the four categories, write about one media text (e.g. film, TV programme, newspaper etc.) that fits that particular audience use or pleasure. Make sure you explain WHY it fits the category and use images or clips to illustrate your points. The first one is done for you.

hypodermic needle model has been shown to have an effect as it caused an attempted murder case where they played the game online and On the morning of May 31, the girls went to a local park where Morgan and Anissa had intentions to kill Payton. After the Slender Man stabbing Payton, Morgan and Anissa left her in the woods and travelled five miles on foot. When police found the girls, they were calm and collected, explaining that Slender Man made them do it. They were told by Slender that they had to kill someone to be worthy of living alongside him, and if they failed their family would be killed. this shows how it had an effect on the mindset of young girls and encouraged them to do bad things.

the 2 step model has been shown with Andrew Tate as he went viral on the internet for his strong opinions which caused controversy but young males have started to follow his sayings and they say 'W Tate' meaning they agree with is words and believe that he is right.

the bumbler and Katz model can relate to love island as people enjoy watching love shows as they may connect with the characters and feel a connection with the characters as they may of had similar problems or good times this make them have a personal relationship with the characters and they feel something while watching the show.

the decadency theory can relate to people relying on the media for their daily lives e.g. the weather app shows the weather predications which could affect there plans for that day

Diversion: Film - Blinded By The Light. Entertaining and offering escapism for fans of Bruce Springsteen or anyone that enjoys coming of age films or culture-clash comedies.
Personal Relationships: love island offers people to view people falling in love and going threw problems that they may connect with and feel as they may be gong through or have been through similar situations
Personal Identity: educating series may relate to students that are in school or teachers that are working in schools
Surveillance: the weather app could affect peoples plans

Dependency theory

1) Do you agree that audiences have become dependent on the media? What evidence or examples can you provide to support your view?
i think they have s it is a part of daily us e.g. weather app or checking where there is traffic or the bus time app is now a app that people have become dependent on

2) How has the growth of new and digital technology in the last 15 years changed people's dependency on the media? Is this a new problem?
there was less media back then but now there is way more meaning whatever people are looking for they can find on the media which has made them more dependant on the media however it works in well sometimes as it saves them in convince, e.g. traffic, missing buses e.g

3) Reflecting on your own media use, how does your media consumption impact on your emotions? Does the media have an overall positive or negative impact on your health and wellbeing? Why?
i think overall it has a mainly positive impact as it helps me with day to day actives and e.g. helps me to come to school on time.
