MIGRAIN assessment 1 learner repsonse

 1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

www. good effort when explaining reception theory

ebi; better graft of what the questions are asking e.g.  q1 no reference to narrative codes  and q2 no genre theory.

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
q1 i didn't mention the narrative codes so i could of talked about the barthes enigma and action code where i could of mentioned the gun or tower blocks or the review quotes

q2 i didn't mention the genre theory's  where i could of talked bout the differences in the social and cultural context  how by the clouds and the sun rising  both use the sky however they used it in different context and manor allows the audience to get to know the character a bit better than the Nike

q3 i only got 2/9 marks this because I did not mention the genre importance for the audience E.G the expectations of narrative, character, plot, style, and content selection and rejection of text audiences, pleasures gratification, allow comparison and discussion of media products. This recognises developments and evolution in genres.

q4 i missed out parts on each part of the reading but answered abit of them well
in the preferred/dominant reading, I could’ve mentioned vibe as a opinion leader which links to the two-step flow theory, defining cool on the behalf of the audience shows authority and confidence that “I dare you to disagree” shows that celebrating hip-hop, an app and culture is strongly endorsed This follows the two-step flow theory.
in the oppositional reading, I could’ve mentioned the reinforcement of negative black stereotypes, having a central image of aggressive and challenging. This could be backed up by the informative language “bad ass”
In the negotiated reading, I could’ve mentioned that there is a understanding and appreciation that the audience will adopt somewhere between the two extreme opinions and acceptance of urban or hip-hop culture without perhaps identifying personally.

3) Read this exemplar response from a previous Year 12 (an A grade) - note this was a slightly different paper in terms of the question wording (we've updated it to better reflect recent exams). Identify at least one potential point for each question from this student's paper that you could have mentioned in your assessment.

the example, response is written in a simple way, which clearly answers the question and is written in paragraphs to show a clear understanding of the question and show clearly to the marker that they have understood. They use keywords in the right context and also quote from the text. The link back to the question and fully answer. The question which is seen in the mark scheme as they mention barthes enigma codes and link it too i’ll manors poster

4) Did you get any media terminology or theory wrong in the assessment? Make a note of it here for future revision, including theories/terminology that you could have used but didn't.
I didn’t get any terminology wrong, however, in question one I missed out talking about the narrative codes and making a reference which is the whole point of the question and also in question two, I didn’t talk about genre theory which again goes around the question, and she has a lack of understanding.

5) Identify your weakest question and write five bullet points that would improve on your original response. Use the mark scheme and exemplar paper to identify these points - particularly focusing on the anticipated content and the top level descriptors.
question 01 i didn’t talk about narrative codes
i could of mentioned
- todorov: disequilibrium suggested by the gun: character eyeliner looking off screen suggest danger or threat tagline references ‘survival’ no hint of new equilibrium.
-barges enignma action codes the gun tower voice review quotes
-props characters types the urban hero established through costume and props
-narrative does suggest action violence and confrontation-genre of order
-enigma code causing questions from the consumers and making them think
